Let’s get behind Evan Mawarire
I’ve been thinking about Pastor Evan Mawarire. Personally – Ini hangu sa Yvonne – I felt really betrayed when he left Zimbabwe in 2016 and even more so when he did that video with that girl (yes that one). But after really taking time to think things through, I feel like I would have probably left too, had I been in his shoes. Those ZANoids don’t play – unoshaya ahiihe (Zanu (PF) will take you out). The safety of my family would have been my first priority ahead of anything or anyone else.
Evan Mawarire’s mistake
That said, I feel like maybe he should have been open with us from the get go. Fill us in kuti “hama dzangu chaka color, I am getting threatening phonecalls” and whatnot. I really think we deserved to be in the loop coz we were in it together. Staying away from our jobs and all that because we were in it TOGETHER. He was open about everything else, so why not just let it all out? That would have probably made the people more vigilant.
The weakness of Zimbos
Truth be told, Zimbabwean people – myself included – are a bunch of cowards. And we are selfish. Right now we are busy trying to encourage each other to register to vote in the next general election, scheduled for 2018 but still a lot just think it’s non of their business. Complaining behind closed doors about the situation but don’t want to be involved in how to make it better. Lazarus Dokora is messing up the education system and you have a child in public school but won’t march against his bullsh*t policies when called upon to do so. Hanzi “Ndotya riot” but hautye kuti future yemwana irikuparara? (You say you are afraid of the anti riot police but it should scare you that your children’s future is under threat).
Why we should support Pastor Evan
I could go on and on, but what I am trying to say is this: Pastor Evan still needs our support. Those that say this flag is a Zanu (PF) project may or may not be right. But right now #ThisFlag is about improving the lives of everyone. #ThisFlag is not Pastor Evan Mawarire. It is you and it’s me. Let’s rally behind him and remind this Anti-people government that we are a united people and we want a Zanu-free Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe is sinking
Bond notes are slowly becoming the only currency available. Shops are slowly running out of stock, prices are going up everywhere. In some stores, you will see three different prices on the same product; the lowest price for those paying in US dollars, another price if paying in bond notes and a third price for those paying electronically. Open your eyes! THINGS ARE NOT WELL. Police brutality is getting worse. Corruption haada – laughs – don’t even go there.
Pastor Evan Mawarire was standing up for a people that don’t even want to stand up for themselves, but only want to cry foul because he put his family first. He came back home. At least give him that. Ini chaiye I had given up on him but dai ndirini ndakakusiyai kare kare ndikasadzoka (if I were in his shoes, I would have left for good).
